US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Office of Citizen Exchanges is inviting grant proposals for ‘SportsUnited: International Sports Programming Initiative’ on themes – Sport for social change, health and disability. The major objective of the program is to use sport to help underserved youth around the world develop important leadership skills, achieve academic success, promote tolerance and respect for diversity. The program intends to create linkages, both people-to-people and institutional, through sport.
Grant per project varies from $130,000 to $225,000. Approximately 8-10 awards will be distributed under this call. Duration of program may be from one-year to three-years.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Near East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, and Western Hemisphere are the eligible countries.
- Applicants must be public or private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3).
- The proposed programs must be in one of the following themes – sport and social change, sport and health, and sport and disability.
- The proposed programs must be on both male and female youth ages 7-17 and/or their coaches/sport administrators.
- Programs designed to train elite athletes or coaches are not eligible to apply.
- Applicant organizations must demonstrate their capacity for conducting international exchanges, focusing on three areas of competency- provision of projects that address the purpose and themes outlined in this document; age-appropriate programming for youth and/or coaches and sports administrators; and previous experience working on programs in the identified country/countries.
