The UK Department for International Development has launched the Community Link Programme for UK-based community groups which have a linkage with a community group in developing countries working to understand more about global development issues. The aim of the programme is “increase understanding of global development issues, and offers funding and support to community groups in the UK that have a link with a community group in a developing country.” With £3 million funding from DFID for a period of three years, the programme is managed by the British Council, the Institute of Community Cohesion, the Inter Faith Network for the UK and VSO.
Accordingly, “Linking is an ongoing relationship between two groups of people, usually in different countries, who communicate and do things together, founded on trust for mutual benefit.” The programme will assist groups in understanding more about global development issues, making connections between the community and others and explore how global issues make a local impact. The Global Community Link will offer “online support, advice and ideas for every stage of your Link journey; newsletters and resources to inspire your Link, workshops to activate your Link, to share experiences with others and to get to know other people involved in Linking and resources to help you evaluate your successes.” The funding from the programme is expected to strengthen the global Link, learn and share knowledge about global development issues and involve others in the Link.
