European Funding for building capacities of Civil Society and Local Authorities in Pakistan

The European Commission (EC) has this call for proposals, “Non-State Actors and Local Authorities in Development: Actions in Pakistan, 2009-2010” with the overarching objective of reducing poverty in the context of sustainable development including the pursuit of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and aims at strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations and local authorities as a pre-condition for a more equitable, open and democratic society through support to their “own initiatives.”

“The programme will focus on building the capacities of the Pakistani NSAs and LAs to effectively contribute to the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development policies, placing high priority on advancing the role of women, and processes at all levels. This will in turn foster a greater culture of accountability, transparency and civic responsiveness to the national development agenda. The applicants are required to clearly demonstrate in their proposals how the capacity building aspect will be part of the action. Under this call for proposals priority will be given to Actions focusing on:

“Improving the provision of water and sanitation service delivery to vulnerable communities in NWFP and Balochistan through capacity-building of the service providers and the communities, reformed delivery systems, and an improved awareness among the communities on hygiene.”

As a restricted call for proposals, only concept notes have to be submitted initially based upon the given format. All applicants should have prior registration at PADOR. Concept notes have to be presented in electronic format (CD-ROM) and delivered to the local office of the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan in Islamabad, Pakistan. Selected applicants will be requested for full proposals. The deadline to submit the concept notes is 12 April 2010. For more information, visit this link.
