Social development organization (SDO), is a non governmental, non-sectoral, non-profitable organization registered under the Manipur Societies registration Act, 1989 Manipur Act No.1 of 1990), which was set up with a mission to alleviate the condition of the weaker sections of the society in the hilly areas of Manipur state. Since its inception, SDO has been dedicating all its efforts in pursuit of its endeavour of an equal society where there are enough opportunities of every individual so that they lead a self sustainable and respectful life.

The biggest initiative taken by SDO till date is its successful Goatery programme which was funded by donations approved under the section 35 AC from the department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. SDO envisages to undertake such programmes in future as they suit the environment and condition of the hilly areas and its people.
    About Us :
Thrust areas of intervention carried out by SDO include rural development, SHG formation among tribal women, agriculture/horticulture, sanitation, free dental camps and so on.
The main objective is to make the tribal population in the state of Manipur shed their inhibitions and come into the mainstream. SDO, in its pursuit of well being of the deprived weaker sections of the society organizes awareness campaigns to make the people aware of their constitutional rights, welfare schemes being run by the central and state government for their upliftment so that they can avail the facilities meant for them. Thus, SDO is making a constant and a serious effort to bridge the social and developmental gap between the tribal people and the mainstream society that has cropped up during the last four to five decades after independence. SDO, Senapati also recognizes and acknowledges the fact that the ethnicity of the tribal people also needs to be preserved during the process of their development. As part of this, initiatives regarding cultural programmes are also organized periodically. SDO is aiming to open up a tribal museum in Senapati district in the next four to five months
    Our Activities :-
Amongst its numerous programmes of social welfare, some of the thrust areas can be described as below:

Ø Piggery farming: It is one of the mostly practised traditional occupations of the tribal population for earning their livelihoods in the villages. So to enhance their scientific knowledge in piggery in and improved breeds and to improve the socio-economic status of poor tribal families, SDO organizes workshops and onsite training programs on a regular basis along with the collaboration with different SHGs formed by SDO as part of their SHG formation programmes. Improved breeds of pigs

Ø Agriculture and horticulture farming: Taking into account the fact that, almost the entire tribal population of Manipur and Senapati district in particular, depends upon agriculture, SDO organizes mass plantation programmes of banana, orange, mango, lemon, ginger etc. thus benefiting the local youth and farmers.

Ø Training in tailoring and embroidery, wool knitting, handloom and handicrafts: In order to improve the socio-economic condition of the rural tribal women (ST women), SDO conducted a one-month training course in tailoring and embroidery, wool knitting, handloom and handicrafts

Ø SHG formation among the tribal women in Sadar hills: By putting aside small sums of money the women create their own fund so they do not have to seek help from unscrupulous lenders when they need money to meet their basic needs or want to start their own business. This helps to break the vicious circle that traps these families into poverty and forces parents to put their children to work.

Ø Goatery farming: Under this programme selected villagers are trained abouth hygiene, fodder, vaccination, and proper care of the animals. At the end of the programme, the participants were distributed a pair of goats for starting up their own businesses so as to make them self reliant.

Apart from the activities mentioned above, SDO is involved in other initiatives such as conselling services for adolescents, cultivation of medicinal plants, social forestry, adult and non-formal education, aged welfare programmes, social service camps, child care and protection programmes etc.

Water is an essential element of life. However acquisition of safe and clean water is a fundamental right for all. Our Local NGOs based in and working with poor-rural communities of Lago and sanga Districts in Niassa Province in the Northern region of Mozambique believes provision of clean water alone is not sustainable if community attitude towards clean water are not changed. We believe in an integrated approach of using popular activities to include sports in sensitizing rural communities on the need to preserve water and provide adequate care to available infrastructures. We are keenly interested in applying for these funds and hope to make a difference to the livelihood of poor rural communities and much more contibute to goal 1 and goal 7 of the MDGs

    Respected Sir/Madam,
    Foundation Ensemble

Our organization sSTEP has been working with Urban poor in Guwahati city of Assam, India and with the marginalized farmer in the rural areas of Assam. Assam is a Flood prone state of India so farmers started practicing winter paddy. Here winter rainfall is very less (not more than 2cm.)and no irrigation facility in the agriculture field. Therefore farmers has been using deep tube well for water. The pump machine is very costly that poor farmers can not effort. Most of farmers do their cultivation by hiring water pump. Due to off season heavy fertilizer and pesticide are required. As a result output and input of production is quite equal. farmers are doing this because of that their no alternative way and still people like to consume their own product.
sSTEP has been working with farmers to minimize their production cost through practicing Organic manure and trained on new technology.
We will be glad if your foundation support the farmers.

    With Regards
