Organizations and individuals are invited to apply for the Cordaid HIV and AIDS Award which recognizes the leadership for strengthening home-based care to respond against HIV and AIDS in the Global South. The Award is organized by the Catholic Organisation for Relief and Development (Cordaid) and partners of the Caregivers Action Alliance’s (CAA) Organising Committee (HelpAge International Huairou Commission, VSO International) and the World YWCA. Home-based care has been found to be effective, relevant and mostly a community-oriented approach in addressing HIV and AIDS in developing countries. In these countries, there is lack of adequate health infrastructure, proper public policies and health personnel to provide care for people living with HIV and AIDS. In such conditions, organizations and individual volunteers engage in providing home-based care for the affected people with limited resources at hand. The Award recognizes such efforts and funds up to €15,000 to NGOs and €5,000 to individuals as a reward.
NGOs that have been managing and leading home-based care programs and projects against HIV and AIDS can apply for the Award. They need to demonstrate their commitment and dedication towards this approach and also provide evidence of the impact and success recorded due to such interventions. These interventions should also ensure that home-based care givers and the People Living with HIV and AIDS are also empowered and there is sustainability and scalability integrated into the overall strategies.
The award is given out in a ceremony to be held in December 2009 in the Netherlands. Recipients are expected to make a presentation at the ceremony. The funding received from the award has to be used for supporting further activities of the interventions. The application form can be downloaded online. Both nominations and self-nominations are accepted. The deadline for submitting the application forms is 15 September 2009. For more information, visit this link.
