The MTV Staying Alive Foundation has announced the grants for the prevention of HIV and AIDS around the world. The grants are specifically given for youths under the age of 27 years. Although both individuals and organizations are eligible to apply, individuals need to have an organization to receive the grant. All organizations applying for the grant have to be led by a young person. The Foundation encourages new and recent organizations which have not received previous grants to apply for the grant.
Although the projects can be implemented in any part of the world, grant preference will be made to those areas where there is a high prevalence of HIV. Grants are made for projects for a duration of one year only. The project grant can vary but the maximum amount allocated is around US $12,000. Project period under the current grant announcement will begin from January 2010 and end around December 2010.
The purpose of the grant is to support the initiatives of the young people against HIV and AIDS by empowering them. The grant award will provide and sustain HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention for young people; empower and establish youth leaders in communities who can generate positive community responses and commitments; and alleviate the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS.
The deadline for submitting the proposals through the given application form is 14 September 2009. For more information, visit this link.
