The Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) is an opportunity for those working for the realization of human rights and build the capacities of their organizations through skill-building, networking, advocacy and academic knowledge in the context of human rights. It is a unique and successful model affiliated with the Columbia University and has its location in New York City.
Lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, social workers, community organizers, and other human rights activists working with NGOs on issues including sexual and gender-based violence, domestic violence, minority rights, LGBT rights, labor rights, migration, health, social exclusion, environmental justice, and corporate social accountability can apply to participate in the program. They should be actively working at the grassroots-level and preference will be given to those who did not have any previous opportunity to travel and study abroad.
Applicants should be endorsed by their organizations and they should commit themselves to return back to their organization after the end of the program. Selected participants will receive full fellowships covering travel and accommodation for the program.
The next HRAP will be held from late August to the middle of December 2011. Applications for this program will be accepted by 19 November 2010. For more information, visit this link.
