Nominations are being accepted for the Human Rights Defenders 2010. Anyone can submit a nomination.
The Human Rights Defenders Tulip is the human rights award presented by the Dutch government to an individual who has shown exceptional courage in protecting and promoting the rights of fellow citizens.
The winner receives the bronze statuette of the Human Rights Defenders Tulip and a cash award of €10,000. In addition, the winner may submit a project proposal for up to €100,000 in support of his or her work as a human rights defender.
An independent jury decides on a shortlist of three from all the nominees. The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs will select the winner and present the Human Rights Defenders Tulip on Friday 10 December 2010, international Human Rights Day.
Human rights defenders from all over the world can be nominated. They should be individuals (not organizations), whose daily work involves the peaceful protection/promotion of human rights. They should be human rights defenders who have faced or are at risk of facing the negative, personal consequences of their work. They are individuals who could benefit from the recognition and visibility of winning the prize.
Nominations will only be accepted if the form is completed in its entirety and is accompanied by any necessary supporting documents. We accept submissions in the following languages: Dutch, English, French and Spanish.
