The Arab Human Rights Fund (AHRF), a Beirut-based independent foundation providing financial resources and technical assistance for the promotion of human rights in the Arab region has requested proposals from NGOs across the 22 member countries of the Arab region to apply for grants. The Fund encourages social justice philanthropy and believes that long-term development and sustainable progress in the region is possible only when there is an enjoyment of human rights by individuals and communities. Although the NGOs and individuals from the Arab region are encouraged to apply, even those located outside the region can also apply but the impact of the proposed project should be within the region only.
Both organizations and individuals are welcome to apply for the Fund aimed at promoting and protecting human rights across the Arab countries. The previous grants made by Fund amounted to around US $297,907 with each grantee receiving grants between US $7,500 and $20,000 for a project duration of one year. However, in this year’s announcement, the Fund encourages applicants to submit proposals for a duration of up to three years and the total budget can be up to US $25,000. Organizations should demonstrate their commitment and presence within the community, the project should be innovative enough in implementation and strategy development and there should be potential for the projects to scale up with the support of the Fund.
The application form can be downloaded from the AHRF website. The last date to apply for the fund is 31 August 2009. For more information, visit this link.
