The Inter-American Development Bank has launched the 2012 IDEAS Energy Innovation Contest seeking innovative proposals aimed at increasing energy efficiency and access to renewable energies in the Caribbean.
A high proportion of the sponsorship for this contest is UKAID from the Department for International Development (DFID).
The competition is open to Business initiatives and commercial projects which may be at an early stage but which have potential to achieve significant scale. Proposals are likely to be innovative in relation to technology or business model, and focussed on renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and fossil fuel substitution.
Applications are invited from the following Caribbean countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago.
