The NGO Delegation at the UNAIDS Program Coordination Board (PCB) is first of its kind in an UN programme to represent the civil society formally at its governing board. The NGO delegation participates “objectively and independently in the workings and decision-making of the PCB,” undertakes “various forms of proactive and informed advocacy within the structures and processes of the PCB,” and enhances “the transparency and accountability of relevant PCB decision-making and policy-setting, helping to meet requirements for upwards accountability (towards the PCB and other delegations) and downwards accountability (towards the people, communities and constituencies affected by HIV).”
The next 26th UNAIDS Board Meeting will be taking place in Geneva at the ILO Headquarters from 22 to 24 June 2010 and recently, NGOs were requested to apply and register by 31 May 2010 as observers to participate in it. However, for those who missed the opportunity, there is still a chance to be part of a call with the civil society representatives worldwide to brief them about the main agenda items, share with them some of the talking points and receive feedback from them about the strategy for the meeting. The call has been arranged telephonically and NGOs from around the world can dial in the appropriate number and share and receive information about the PCB. The call will take place on 10 June at 2 pm CEST (Geneva).
The board meeting will include the following agenda items:
- The NGO Delegation’s annual report to the board;
- Ensuring non-discrimination in responses to HIV;
- Reducing HIV transmission among men who have sex with men and transgender people;
- A progress report on the implementation of the “UNAIDS Action Framework:
- Addressing Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV”; and
- Follow up to the Second Independent Evaluation of UNAIDS.
