ITVS International Fund beginning November 1 will be accepting investment proposals from non-US producers and filmmakers living outside the US for the non-US Documentary films.
The ITVS International Fund will offer production and/or post-production funds for single non-fiction television documentaries that convey international views and perceptions or stories to U.S. audience. This is an initiative of the International Media Development Fund that has been established by ITVS in association with the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Project Eligibility
- Single programs of standard broadcast length (one-hour). In rare cases, when a filmmaker’s skills, subject, and story structure warrant it, ITVS will consider programs at feature lengths.
- Works-in-progress, i.e. projects that have already begun production
- Programs that can be completed within one year of contract
- Co-production projects with either international broadcast partner(s) or co-productions with producers from different countries
Following types of proposals are not eligible to apply:
- Subject matter based in the United States, lifestyle, or children’s programming
- Proposals for completed projects seeking acquisition and distribution
- Series proposals or fictional dramas
- Projects intended solely for theatrical release
Eligibility
- Citizens of any country except the U.S., residing in any country except the U.S.
- Dual foreign/U.S. citizens are eligible if they do not reside in the U.S.
- American citizens may only participate as co-applicants in a true co-production relationship with a non-U.S. primary applicant.
- Persons age 18 or older
- Persons with previous film or television production experience in a principal role (director, co-director, producer, co-producer) as demonstrated by submitting a previously completed work sample
Who is not eligible to apply?
- Individuals who do not meet ITVS’s definition of an “independent producer”
- Students
- Current signatories of ITVS production contracts who have not completed delivery or previously funded producers who are not up to date with reporting requirements.
- Organizations such as universities, foundations and non-profit media organizations
- Production managers, writers, assistants, supporting crew members
