“The “Youth for Change” Program aims at inspiring, informing and involving Arab Youth to be Agents of Change in their communities. The phase II of this program focuses on the theme: Global Youth Culture and Participation and is implemented through a partnership between Bibliotheca Alexandrina and TakingITGlobal as well as other organizations in the MENA region to encourage cross-cultural dialogue and support youth-led development projects in the following 14 countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.
In this regard, the “Youth for Change” Program is offering 15 mini-grants ($1000) to support youth-led development projects on issues such as youth employment, health, education, etc to cover the period from March 2010 to September 2010. Initially, 25 potential winners will be offered scholarships to attend the Fifth Arab Youth Forum in Alexandria in February 2010 to present their project ideas. Based on their presentations and individual interviews, only 15 will be chosen to receive one of the mini-grants and attend the project management e-course. Selected mini-grant winners will also receive scholarships to attend the World Youth Congress in Turkey 2010!”
Criteria for Applicants
- Male/female between the ages 16-32 from one of the following countries: Algeria Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.
- Actively engaged in local community (previous involvement in youth organizations, projects or activities)
- Credibility of the applicant (one reference is needed)
- Fluent in spoken and written Arabic and English
- Access to regular and reliable broadband internet
- Able to use information and communication technologies (for example: blogs, e-mail, discussion forums, online chats)
- Passionate about creating positive change in your community
