One of the important grantmaking programs of A.J. Muste Memorial Institute is the International Nonviolence Training Fund (INTF). This fund specifically supports nonviolence trainings and project proposal are accepted round the year with four deadlines given. Grantmaking decisions are made by the INTF Advisory Committee which comprises of several trainers associated with the Institute and are ratified by the Muste Institute Board of Directors. Trainings facilitate people to develop and improve the skills needed “to confront systemic injustice through organized, principled, nonviolent action.” These promote exchanges and information sharing to make nonviolent action more effective.
The grant amount offered to support the trainings is not more than $3,000 and the projects eligible for this support include:
- those which build capacity and leadership among people engaged in nonviolent struggles;
- those which prepare participants for specific nonviolent actions or campaigns;
- those geared to “training the trainers,” in order to expand and multiply nonviolence training throughout a targeted community.
Only projects outside the United States and within Native nations in the US are eligible to receive the support. Preference will be given to projects that involve local trainers (if available) and those small, community-based groups that have less access to funding from other sources. It organizations do not have a registration status to receive such funds, they can identify fiscal sponsors through whom the funds can be routed. Sufficient information about these fiscal sponsors should also be submitted.
Project proposals to be submitted through the application form available at the Institute’s website. All applicants need to read through the guidelines carefully. As mentioned above, the next deadline to send the applications is 4 March 2010. For more information, visit this link.
