Supported by Guillermo Cano Foundation, the Nicholas B. Ottaway Foundation and JP/Politiken Newspapers LTD, the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize honours “a person, organization or institution that has made a notable contribution to the defence and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially if this involved risk.” In this regard, UNESCO invites NGOs, international organizations and member states to make nominations for individuals and organizations making significant contribution in the field of journalism and freedom of expression.
The Prize carries a cash of US $25,000 and it is awarded in a ceremony held annually on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day held on 3 May. The next year’s ceremony will be held in Australia. Nominations have to be made using the form available at the UNESCO website. The last date to submit nomination is 15 February 2010. For more information, visit this link.
