“GlobalGiving recognizes that the planet is experiencing a climate crisis of catastrophic proportions which is inducing climate change. We think organizations leading the grassroots response to climate change are an integral part of the solution. GlobalGiving Green therefore exists to support such responses to climate change by expanding beyond carbon offsets.”
How does a project qualify as green?
In order to be considered for the green open challenge an organization’s project must have a significant focus on addressing climate change such as through:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Enhancing carbon storage
- Educating consumers or policymakers
- Encouraging cleaner more efficient technologies
The organization must also not be required to do so by local or national regulation.
How does a “green” project join globalgiving?
In order to post a project on our site an organization must be nominated or self-nomiate themselves. They then will be invited to enter a challenge where they must meet certain thresholds. We will be having a specific green open challenge in July so we encourage all green projects to get their nominations in now!
All nominations due by April 25th, 2010 for the green challenge!”
Both nominations and self-nominations can be submitted. For more, visit this link.
