The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) has announced the availability of funding support to NGOs under the Norwegian Climate and Forest Initiative – Civil Society Support. Applications for this grant opportunity can be made by “Norwegian, international and national coalitions, institutions and non-governmental organizations are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to NGOs, especially those with identified local partners.” Projects proposed should be implemented in developing forest countries. The purpose of the funding scheme is to support REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) pilot activities and how NGOs can be involved and supported to work for fighting against global warming and reduce deforestation and forest degradation. This should be achieved by:
- building capacity among local communities and indigenous peoples to engage in national REDD policy development and discussions
- contributing to national or regional coordination of REDD policy implementation
- setting up locally driven projects aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, including REDD / PES (payment for ecosystem services) funds for local and indigenous peoples
- support to policy development or contributions to developing REDD methodologies
Applications for this funding opportunity have to be submitted both by mail and online. The application form can be downloaded from NORAD’s website.
