NGOs or individuals working on promoting communication in rural areas in developing countries are invited to be nominated for the UNESCO-IPDC Prize for Rural Communication. Community radio programs, distribution of newspapers, broadcasting television programs and films targeted at rural communities are examples of such activities that can be proposed as part of the nomination. However, it is important that these activities are innovative and meritorious, benefiting the targeted groups.
The award is given out once in two years. The award gives out a total amount of US $20,000 to the winner. In addition to the amount, the winner of the award will also receive a diploma from UNESCO. The award will be given out at the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), which will be held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from 24 to 26 March 2010. Nominations have to be made in consultation with the National commissions of UNESCO in different countries or other NGOs that have a consultative status. An application form can be downloaded from the link given below, providing detailed information about the activities and the organization/individual undertaking the work. The last date to submit nominations is 30 October 2009. For more information, visit this link.
