The Zayed Prize established in 1999 honours individuals who have made outstanding contributions for protecting and preserving the environment in any part of the world. It is a biennial Prize given out in the field of environment and sustainable development and it is considered to be the most valuable environmental award. It also has a consultative status with the UN through the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
The Zayed Prize is given out in three categories. These categories are the Global Leadership in Environment and Sustainable Development, carrying an amount of US $500,000, Scientific/Technological Achievements in Environment, which has an award of up to US $300,000 and the Environmental Action leading to Positive Change in Society, carrying US $200,000 award. The award is given out in a grant ceremony held in Dubai.
The Zayed Prize only accepts nominations and no self-nominations are considered. One nominator can submit one application for each category. A nomination form has to be completed and submitted online and information such as details of achievement, curriculum vitae and other supporting documents should be attached.
