Supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan and administered by the Global Development Network, the Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP) is a promising opportunity for NGOs which have been implementing new and recent projects for reducing poverty in developing countries. MIDP awards the most innovative projects which are at their early-stage of implementation and hold a strong potential for effective developmental impact.
NGOs in developing countries across “Africa, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and the transition economies of Eastern Europe and Central Asia” can apply for this grant support. But these NGOs need to have their headquarters in the countries where the projects are being implemented, which means local organizations are most eligible to apply for the award. The projects should demonstrate creativity/ innovativeness in implementing the project, measurable results to be achieved, sufficient organizational capacity, sustainability, replicability, transfer of skills and cost efficiency.
An international selection committee will make the decision for the award. The finalist organization will be awarded a grant of US $30,000 and the runner-up will be awarded with a cash award of US $5,000. All shortlisted organizations for the award will be invited at the GDN’s Eleventh Annual Global Development Conference to be held in Prague, Czech Republic in January 2010.
Applications need to be submitted online through the GDN website. The last date to apply for this grant is 24 August 2009. For more information, download this document.
