UNIFEM has issued a call for proposals to partner with an organization to carry out a study in conflict and post-conflict countries in Africa.
“The study will be the basis of the experts report to the open session of the Peace and Security Council in 20100, and will be launched at the time. The study is expected to draw from up-to-date data and resources by governments, UN System, and organisations specializing in documentation of women’s experiences in conflict and post-conflict countries. The overall aim of the study is to provide the Peace and Security Council, the AU and other stakeholders with timely and updated quantitative and qualitative data on the situation of women and girls in Africa’s conflict and post-conflict situations. The study will seek to respond to the following broad questions:
- How many women and girls, from available and reliable data, are in conflict and post-conflict situations in Africa?
- What is the status of women’s rights paying special attention to existing regional and international commitments on women, peace and security
- What is the nature and extent of interventions by the AU, national governments, development partners including the UN system and CSOs to ensure the enjoyment of rights by women and girls in conflict situations, distinguishing initiatives for the promotion of rights, the prevention of violation of rights, the protection of survivors including ensuring access to justice; and for ensuring the participation of women in conflict prevention and resolution, peacemaking and peace building; as well as post conflict reconstruction.
- What are some of the strategies that are working and bearing results, which could be shared as good practices for deeper analysis as “good practices” for possible replication and up-scaling?
- What are some strategies that are not working and are having negative impacts on the rights of women and girls?
- What recommendations can be proposed to the AU, particularly the Peace and Security Council to strengthen its work on women peace and security?
The deadline to submit proposals is 8 November 2010. For more information, visit this link.
