The Young Reporters against Poverty is a Europe-wide competition for students of journalism in Europe to submit a written article (1000 words max.) or radio broadcast (MP3 format, 3 minutes max.) in their native language on the subject of ‘EU development assistance.’ The focus should be “aid” (excluding humanitarian or emergency assistance) to support the economic, social and political development of developing countries. It is organized by the European Journalism Centre with the support of the European Commission.
The competition is an opportunity for the students to receive hands-on training about development, the EU and how to report live from the European Development Days.
The Young Reporter Against Poverty competition is open to journalism students aged between 18 and 30 years old from all EU 27 member states
All entries received will be shortlisted and one winner per country will be chosen, by a media professional from the respective member state country (two winners will be selected in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK).
The 33 finalists will be announced on the website in the second week of November 2010.
Once selected, the 33 students will be able to create their own personal page on www.youngreporters.net where their winning article/broadcast will be displayed and they will have the chance to get in touch with fellow participants in advance of the trip to Brussels. They will also use this medium to upload all articles/broadcasts generated during the European Development Days.
The deadline to participate in the competition is 29 October 2010. For more information, visit this link.
