Current employees in or for development-oriented non-governmental organizations/civil society organizations with minimum three years of experience working for an NGO operating in or for the developing world are invited to participate in the short course entitled Using Media for Development to be conducted from 11-22 May 2015. The course places an emphasis on combining theory with practice through individual, group and plenary activities, presentations, discussions, role plays, exercises, content analysis and mini-assignments.
On successfully completing the course, participants will have excellent understanding of how NGOs can best use media and collaborate with local media in the interests of development; understanding of the characteristics of print, broadcast, online and social media and their relative strengths and weaknesses; an overview of theoretical models underpinning the design and use of media formats to inform and educate specific target groups; working knowledge of the media content producer’s toolkit; and hands-on practical experience of devising and making a short multimedia story.
Participants who successfully complete the course (sessions and assignments) will receive an RNTC certificate and become alumni.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be currently working in or for an NGO and have a minimum of three years experience, some of which involved the use of media.
- Applicants must have successfully completed higher education and be used to working with computers and have good computer skills.
- Applicant must submit a letter of motivation in English (150-250 words) explaining s/he want to follow the course.
