Mid-career journalists with at least three years experience in broadcast, print and/or online journalism are invited to participate on the short course Online Journalism to be held from 11 May – 19 June 2015. The course will enable participants to examine the impact of new and social media on the practice of journalism through working visits to broadcast, print and online newsroom. Theoretical and practical work focusing on writing and reporting for the internet using text, photos, audio and video will help deepen the understanding of internet as a resource and as a publishing media for journalists.
On completing the course, the participants will be familiar on using internet and social media to check, research and gather information and ideas for stories, generate attention and feedback; writing, sourcing and making digital photos, recording and editing audio and video for online publication in a variety of online journalistic formats; characteristics of journalistic websites and examples of best practice; impact and use of media in online and multimedia journalism practice; and get an insight on working in a multimedia newsroom, generating story ideas and content for a multimedia website.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be currently working a broadcast, print or online journalist and have a minimum of three years experience in journalism.
- Applicants must be used to at working with computers, using internet and have good computer skills.
- Applicant must accompany the application with a motivation stating her/his reason behind following the course.
