infoDev

infoDev is a program of the World Bank with a focus upon the global development of Information Communication Technology. It is funded by the World Bank along with other bilateral and multilateral donors. The mandate of infoDev is to “maximize the impact of ICTs in global efforts to achieve the internationally-supported Millennium Development Goals.” infoDev provides supports to other development initiatives in terms of providing ICT support and enhancing outreach to health, education and development of microenterprises. infoDev works on the central themes of enabling access to all, mainstreaming ICT as a tool to reduce poverty and innovation, entrepreneurship and growth.

The areas covered by infoDev as part of its strategy to integrate ICT with developmental efforts, are education, governance, health, innovation & entrepreneurship and rural livelihoods. infoDev provides a number of funding opportunities to NGOs around the world. However, since the focus is upon integrating ICT with development, NGOs need to provide proposals based on this theme only. infoDev does not accept proposals round the year, but it has regular RFPs (Request for Proposals) issued from time to time. NGOs are encouraged to submit innovative ideas that promote ICT with development of marginalized and underprivileged communities living in remote and inaccessible areas.
