The “One Woman Initiative” was established on 12 May 2008 as an international women’s fund with the support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United States Department of State. The Fund’s objectives include providing support to NGOs in countries which have significant Muslim population. Women are provided with leadership training, entrepreneurial opportunities, access to legal information and workplace opportunity covering issues of entrepreneurship, political leadership and the rule of law.
After completing one year, the One Woman Initiative has announced its first round of grants to five NGOs in Pakistan, Egypt, India, Azerbaijan and the Philippines. The total amount of the grants given to these organization is more than US $500,000 and will focus upon enhancing peace and prosperity in these countries with the participation and leadership of women. CAFAmerica, an international organization based in the United States is responsible for raising and managing funds for the One Woman Initiative and would probably provide technial support to these organizations in rendering the services under the new grants issued.
