A large number of US-based foundations providing international grants for development have committed to provide a substantial portion of their funding for reducing the impact of climate change around the world. A greater part of the grants released during the year, 2008 was offered towards environmental conservation. During the next 10-15 years, it is expected that the foundations would extend more grants to address the climate change problems. Although it is not clear whether the global recession will impact the grantmaking processes of the foundations, yet they have pledged millions of dollars to support initiatives in various countries. William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, and the McKnight Foundation will be supporting up to US $ 1 billion for interventions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in countries where they exists to the highest like USA, Europe, China, India, and Latin America. The Rockfeller Foundation, the Skoll Foundation and the Soros Foundations are other major donor agencies which have committed increased funding support to address the problems arising out of climate change.
