The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, which is an intergovernmental treaty providing working with its member countries for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands, had announced the Ramsar Small Grants Fund this year. The Fund provides support to small projects in developing countries for conservation and wise use of wetlands. Funding allocated to each project is around US $35,000. This year, Ramsar has received more than 40 proposals from around the world and the evaluation for it is currently going on at the Ramsar Secretariat located in Switzerland.
But as the selection process is going on, Ramsar has issued a request for contributions from various parties. The source of funding for this program relies solely on voluntary contributions made by various governmental and non-governmental agencies, including international NGOs. It is expected that by October the sufficient funding is raised for the Program and the work begins in partnership with the grantees.
