Citizen Participation and Accountability Short Course by The Hague Academy to be held from 1 – 12 June 2015 is designed for professionals working for municipal, provincial or national government, for a donor organization or NGO and who are involved in participation and accountability processes in relation to development and governance.
The course participants will gain insight on identifying instruments for increasing social and financial accountability, defining their own role and responsibilities in participation processes as well as the role of their partners, specifying conditions and do’s and don’ts for successful participation projects, and applying tools for communication with citizens, NGOs and other stakeholders.
Questions addressed by the course
- How can municipalities increase social and financial accountability towards their citizens?
- What are the different steps for communication and participation in the policy process?
- And how to promote integrity and transparency?
The participants will
- Discuss the accountability chain, the participation ladder and the do´s and don’ts of citizen participation.
- Work on case studies from different parts of the world, experience different perspectives in role-play and go on study visits to municipalities, active citizen groups and participation projects in the field of urban planning, social cohesion and law and order.
