Deadline: 21 October 2014
The Hague Academy short course on Peace-building and Local Governance to be held from 13 – 24 April 2015 is accepting NFP/MSP from staff of bilateral donors, multilateral agencies and NGOs, and civil servants working for ministries and local governments, who wish to be well-informed about the local dimensions of peace-building in fragile states.
The participants of the short course will be capable of analyzing the state of local governments and the local political economy in fragile or conflict affected countries, judging the impact of local governance and decentralization on realizing a sustainable peace and building state legitimacy, and designing and implementing initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity of governments in fragile or conflict affected countries after completing the course. They will also be able to cooperate more effectively with local governments, the private sector, NGOs and other stakeholders in peace-building and reconstruction programs.
The two weeks course will discuss the issues and challenges for peace building at a local level. The organizers distill lessons from cases in Afghanistan, Burundi, South Sudan and the Balkans, apply theories and concepts to the local context of the participants, and discuss the impact of donor interventions on peace and stability.
