An Overview
“Tamil Nadu Handicapped Federation Charitable Trust”, Chennai – 85 is a registered non-profit social service organization working foe the welfare of disabled. It was established in the year 2000 by disabled persons for the disabled. We are catering to the multifarious needs of 72,000 disabled persons who are the members of our affiliated districts level welfare Association. We have acquired the state level network of 22 district handicapped welfare Associations.
The managing trustee G.Chidambaranathan is a popular and well known social worker with two decades of experience to the welfare of disabled. He dedicated his life to serve for the welfare of disabled. He integrated district level handicapped welfare associations under Federation of Tamilnadu Physically Handicapped Association. As recognition his service The Government of Tamilnadu appointed as a member of state coordination committee for implementation of disabled Ace 1995. And he is an advisor of many Government and non-Governmental Organizations. He is a Convener of international organizations like DPI, DRG for Tamilnadu Chapter.
OUR ACTIVITIES
Training Centre
Give training in Typewriting, Tailoring, and Spoken English with support of Nandini Voice for deprived in seven districts of our affiliated district level handicapped welfare associations. Above 400 persons with disables are getting benefited and above 200 were get placement in private sector every year.
Employment Guidance
Conducted and organized employment awareness campaigns and Employment Guidance Center with support of corporate companies and many disabled are getting employment opportunities to work with corporate sectors.
Sports and Cultural Activities
We conduct State Level Sports meet every year. Near about 1500 of disables from various districts getting benefited and their talents were recognized in national and international levels. Also we conduct Art and Cultural programs to encourage and recognize the talents of differently abled persons.
Awareness Programmes
Conduct lectures, meetings, organize conferences, training programmes, seminars and surveys for the benefit and enlistment of persons with disability with support of like minded NGOs for their rights and opportunities.
Conduct preventing awareness programs to eradicate disability with support of Rotary Clubs and NGOs.
Medical Assistance
Provide health education, training on hygiene and medical assistance and treatment by organizing medical camps for women with disabled and child with disabled in rural areas with support of government and non-governmental organizations.
Aids & Appliances
Provide aids and appliances to the necessary disabled with support of philanthropist. Distribute near about 50 disables are getting benefited every year.
Marketing Assistance for the products made by disables
Running a marketing Centre for the products made by disables. We are organizing and conducting sale and exhibitions at various corporate hospitals and public places to sell their products.
Forming self help groups
Forming self-help groups at district, taluk and panchayat level for the Economic Rehabilitation of the disabled persons. Support the needy and poor differently-abled persons to get their benefits through Government schemes and Bank Loans and if it is necessary to stand Guarantee for these persons.
Legal Assistance
Run Legal Aid and counseling center to educate and create awareness for their rights and opportunities under person with disability act 1995.
Training & Education
Affiliate to National Organizations, including their specialised agencies and to co-operate with them in all matters concerning the education of welfare of the differently-abled persons at large in India.
Awareness magazines
Publish a papers, journals, pamphlets, books etc., to create awareness for the welfare of disabled. We publish a magazine named “Samuga sevai Sudar”
Library
We are running a library and keep books for preparing competitive exams, books related to develop self confidence, self employment, disability law etc for the benefit of disables.
Liaison
Liaison with organizations with similar objectives and with individuals, group of persons, bodies of people, societies, Trusts and other organization for the benefit and welfare of the differently-abled persons.
Monthly Ration
We are helping 500 differently abled persons in different parts of Chennai with monthly ration supported by Sarida Jain Foundation.
Women empowerment programmes
We have helped the disabled women in different districts to form their groups to support themselves in difficulties as well to take up advocacy work in the State – level
We have taken up the following issues at the State level for advocacy and for lobbying with government.
Activities pertaining to policies / empowerment / equal opportunities :
• Advocacy and lobbying with Government, Political Parties, Media.
• Strengthening / building, co-ordinating, campaigns / networks and federation on issues as opposed to promoting it through individual organization.
• Initiating & supporting direct / public protest action on various disabled issues.
• Using publications, working papers, position notes to challenge existing opinions, policies, laws (or) to put forward new ideas based on research work and field based work.
• Awareness education
• Organising Convention, Consultations, strategies, collecting information
• Disabled policy issues and Act, law reforms.
• Legal advice and legal referral services counseling, shelter etc., for affected disabled women and children.
• Conducting Trainings.
• Increasing Skills and Capacities of disabled women and children, adults etc.,
• Co-ordinate public action involving eminent persons and several organizations.
We have 80(G) of income tax act to get exemption from the payment of Income tax for amount donated us and have FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) account to receive foreign funds.
