Executive Summary
Conflict-affected societies often face long-lasting social, economic, and psychological challenges that hinder recovery and sustainable peace. This project, “Building Peace and Resilience in Conflict-Affected Societies”, aims to promote reconciliation, strengthen community resilience, and rebuild social trust through inclusive dialogue, psychosocial support, livelihood restoration, and local governance initiatives.
The initiative focuses on empowering youth, women, and marginalized communities as peacebuilders by creating platforms for dialogue, providing vocational training, and promoting trauma healing. Through a multi-stakeholder approach, the project will enhance collaboration between communities, local authorities, and civil society organizations to ensure lasting peace and resilience.
Background and Problem Statement
Decades of conflict have left deep scars on communities, destroying social cohesion, weakening governance, and increasing poverty and displacement. In many areas, mistrust among ethnic or religious groups remains high, while youth and women—often victims of violence—struggle to find opportunities for participation and livelihood recovery.
The absence of inclusive dialogue and community-based peacebuilding mechanisms has perpetuated cycles of revenge and instability. Social infrastructure, education systems, and healthcare services remain fragile, while many individuals suffer from unaddressed trauma.
Without sustained peacebuilding and resilience-building efforts, these communities risk falling back into violence. Therefore, an integrated approach that combines peace education, livelihood support, and psychosocial healing is essential for long-term recovery and reconciliation.
