Smallholder farmers often face challenges such as limited access to quality inputs, inadequate technical knowledge, fragmented landholdings, and poor access to markets. These constraints result in low productivity, post-harvest losses, and low income.
Cooperative farming models offer a practical solution by pooling resources, knowledge, and labor, enabling farmers to achieve economies of scale. Cooperatives can facilitate collective input procurement, shared equipment use, better crop management, and enhanced access to local and regional markets.
This project aligns with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 12 (Responsible Production) by improving agricultural productivity, income, and market integration.
Project Goal
To enhance smallholder farmers’ productivity and income through the establishment and strengthening of cooperative farming models.
Specific Objectives
- To organize 500 smallholder farmers into 10 cooperative groups for collective farming activities.
- To train cooperative members in modern farming practices, post-harvest management, and cooperative governance.
- To improve access to quality agricultural inputs, machinery, and financial services through collective bargaining.
- To strengthen market linkages, enabling farmers to sell produce at fair prices and reduce exploitation by intermediaries.
Target Beneficiaries
-
Primary beneficiaries: 500 smallholder farmers (40% women, 30% youth) in [target region].
-
Indirect beneficiaries: Families of cooperative members, local markets, and agricultural input supplier Key Project Activities
-
