In conclusion, local NGOs play a critical role in strengthening humanitarian response networks and delivering aid and support to disaster-affected communities. Their unique understanding of the local context and their ability to work closely with local communities make them essential actors in humanitarian response efforts.
However, local NGOs face numerous challenges, including limited resources, political and social barriers, and limited recognition and legitimacy.
This project aimed to explore the role of local NGOs in strengthening humanitarian response networks and develop recommendations to better support and strengthen their role.
Through literature review, stakeholder consultations, field visits, and data collection and analysis, we were able to identify the strengths and challenges of local NGOs and assess their impact on humanitarian response efforts.
We also developed recommendations to better support and strengthen local NGOs, including improving their access to funding, capacity building, and enhancing coordination and collaboration with international actors.
By implementing these recommendations and better supporting the role of local NGOs in humanitarian response networks, we can build more effective and sustainable humanitarian response systems. This, in turn, will help us better respond to emergencies and disasters and improve the lives of disaster-affected communities.
