Project Background and Rationale:
Climate Change and Global Concerns: One of the most important global issues of our day is climate change. The rise in greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), brought on by human activities like the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes has had an impact on the environment and society economically and environmentally. Global cooperation is necessary to combat climate change.
International Climate Agreements: Over the past few decades, the international community has come together to negotiate and implement various climate agreements aimed at mitigating climate change. These agreements include the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement, among others.
These agreements set targets and commitments for countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, with the overarching goal of limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The Need for Evaluation: While international climate agreements represent important milestones in the fight against climate change, it is crucial to assess their effectiveness in achieving their stated carbon reduction targets.
The global community invests substantial resources and political capital in these agreements, making it imperative to evaluate whether they are delivering the desired outcomes.
