In the modern world, technology has permeated every aspect of existence and greatly impacted children’s activities and behaviours. Children are exposed to more screen-based activities, including social media, video games, and educational apps, as a result of the widespread use of smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices.
Although there are many advantages to technology, questions have been raised regarding how it can affect children’s physical and mental health. In order to promote a balanced and healthy relationship with digital gadgets, it is imperative to comprehend the implications of technology use on the health and development of the younger generation.
This proposal aims to undertake a comprehensive longitudinal study to explore the intricate relationship between technology use and the physical and mental well-being of children over an extended period.
Background:
In recent decades, the rapid advancement of technology has transformed the way children interact with the world. From educational tools to entertainment platforms, children are engaging with various forms of technology from an increasingly young age.
Researchers and legislators are now examining the possible consequences of technology use on children’s physical and mental health as a result of the new opportunities and difficulties that the digital revolution has brought about for their growth and well-being.
Several studies have highlighted the concerns associated with excessive screen time, including a sedentary lifestyle leading to obesity, musculoskeletal issues, and irregular sleep patterns. Furthermore, the impact of prolonged exposure to digital screens on children’s vision and cognitive development has become a growing area of concern.
Alongside physical health, the psychological effects of technology use, such as increased levels of stress, anxiety, and social isolation, have also garnered significant attention.
Although prior studies have yielded significant insights into the short-term consequences of technology use on kids, there is still a knowledge vacuum on the long-term effects. A thorough longitudinal study is necessary to evaluate the changing effects of technology on children’s overall wellbeing.
By examining the interplay between technology use, physical health, and mental well-being over an extended period, this study seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations for parents, educators, and policymakers to facilitate a healthier and more balanced approach to technology use among children.
