Comprehensive Biodiversity Assessment:
The project will provide a detailed assessment of the current state of biodiversity in the target region. This will include species inventories, population trends, and distribution maps.
Climate Change Impacts:
We will determine specific effects of climate change on regional species through data analysis and modelling. In order to do this, it will be necessary to evaluate changes in species’ phenology, distribution, and interactions, including dynamics between predators and prey and pollinators and plants.
Ecosystem Service Mapping:
The project will quantify the ecosystem services provided by the studied ecosystems, such as pollination, water purification, carbon sequestration, and recreational opportunities. This will involve stakeholder engagement to determine the perceived value of these services.
Cascading Effects of Biodiversity Loss:
By examining the relationship between climate change-induced biodiversity loss and changes in ecosystem services, we will highlight potential cascading effects. For example, we may discover that a decline in pollinators leads to reduced crop yields and increased food prices.
Conservation and Adaptation Strategies:
Based on our findings, we will develop recommendations for conservation and adaptation strategies. These strategies may include habitat restoration, assisted migration of species, and policy recommendations to mitigate climate change.
Educational Outreach:
Through various outlets, such as scholarly papers, workshops, and community outreach initiatives, we will share our findings. Our mission is to increase public understanding of how climate change is affecting ecosystem services and biodiversity while also motivating local and international action.
Policy Influence:
We will engage with policymakers to ensure that our research informs decision-making processes related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. This may involve providing expert testimony, participating in policy discussions, and sharing policy briefs.
Long-Term Monitoring:
In order to monitor changes in biodiversity and ecosystem services through time, we will set up a framework. This will make it easier to evaluate how well conservation and adaptation initiatives are working.
