Do you want to add value to a raw product by taking it to the next stage of production? This project “Adding Value to Agricultural Products” will help you surely. Farmers are responsible for all crops and livestock that are needed for us to survive. Without food, the world would slowly die, and farmers work hard every day to keep plenty of crops and animal products in the market to keep that from happening. This project will mainly focus on the key population aged 18 plus with in Lwamaggwa Sub-County and the surrounding communities. The project will cover 400 people and they must be farmers aged 18 and above. The overall objective of the project is to add value to the agricultural product. This sample proposal is mainly natured to construct a model produce store in Lwamaggwa purposely for farmers who truly depend on Agriculture as their income generating activity, grouping of the beneficiaries in order to train them to work for a common goal for the betterment of each individual.
Problem Statement
Farmers in XXXXXXXXX who take care of all activities ranging from clearing the land, preparing the seedlings, planting, weeding, spraying harvesting and maintaining the farm produce such that they can sell and gain from their activities sell their products on cheap prices due to early selling and less external market to take the products. Approximately 60% of the farmers end up selling their product unexpectedly and on a low price due to price fluctuation and luck of where to keep their products until when the demand is high. Such cases have been increased to lower the prices of farm products as the farmers rush to sell such that they can earn a living however, little the price it is. This has made some of the farmers to give up on farmers and other to reduce on the size of the farmers they operate.
If something is not done to improve the status of farmers, food production will be reduced in the areas hence less earning and poor standards of living in the community. In the year that ended (2017), a group of farmers decided to quit farming after toiling in the drought to produce maize and beans which were later sold cheaply and could not sustain their needs/target. The reason for their quite was avoid situations, like lack of markets and price fluctuation in the area where by even the money invested in the farming activities was from one of the loan giving organizations of which was to be paid back.
Problem Justification
Farmers in XXXXXXXXX at the age of 18 take the biggest part as the key population aging from 18 years plus. They depend on farming as their key activity of income generating whereby they earn a living in terms of getting money for school fees, medication, family needs and good for survival. According to the research made by XXXXXXX Agri-business Network.80% of the population in the community depends on farming and only 20% of the population do other incoming generating activities. Due to lack of storage facilities where to keep their harvest to wart for high demands in market, farmers sell off their products to cheap buyer hence earning little compared to what they would have got from their products. We are targeting 400 people (direct beneficiaries) who are going to be models to the community in terms of storage facilities for the farm produce sore.
In addition to the above, it has been observed that farmers have always outnumbered other groups in the community meetings and as such Agri-business Network looks forward to ensure that this commitment is enhanced and channelled towards the right direction for the purpose of community development. This group needs to be enlightened to work towards their own development, be able to sell their products in good markets and at a higher price to improve their standards of living through health, education and development as well.
