This project aims to mitigate climate change impacts in rural communities by promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative will focus on enhancing the resilience of 1,500 smallholder farmers through training on climate-smart agriculture, water conservation techniques, and soil management practices. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the sustainability of farming systems, this project will contribute to food security, environmental protection, and community resilience.
Background and Rationale:
Agriculture is a major contributor to climate change, responsible for around 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet it is also one of the most affected sectors. In rural communities, smallholder farmers face growing challenges due to unpredictable weather patterns, soil degradation, and water scarcity. These challenges threaten food security and livelihoods, making it critical to transition to sustainable agricultural practices.
Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) offers practical solutions to these challenges, integrating techniques that boost productivity, enhance resilience, and reduce emissions. This project seeks to empower farmers in rural areas to adopt CSA practices, increasing their capacity to cope with climate change while protecting the environment.
