Are you willing to help or empower slum girls? Take a look of this sample project. The goal of the project is to teach girls basketball skills in combination with relevant life & job skills, develop their leadership skills to improve their prospects of work and self-sufficiency, build a talent pipeline to secure more opportunities for girls now and in the future. With external stakeholders (schools & companies) via tournaments and Nairobi Basketball League, to create visibility for the girls, attract possible scholarships with secondary schools and/or universities, or potential employers for girls completing secondary school/university and empower girls by integrating Life Skills with Sports, the programme stimulates a philosophy of Healthy Body makes Healthy Minds. This project wills develop a strong sense of self: leadership, determination, competition, teamwork among girls. They learn to perform under pressure, make decisions, lead their own lives. Through this sample proposal we want to educate and empower slum girls.
MISSION
Safe Spaces exists to help girls in the slums save their own lives.
Our mission is to provide a safe space in the Eastland slums of Nairobi for young girls and young women to envision and pursue the future they want for themselves and their communities through life-skills and reproductive health training and awareness, arts and sports (Basketball), vocational training and academic education scholarship programs.
Our Goal is to build a stronger generation of young women with independent minds who go after what they want to achieve in life, act as role models and take leadership positions in their community to drive sustainable development and change.
Our motto “I am the change” underlines the importance of empowerment. Each girl learns that she has the power to voice her ambitions, change her community and achieve her dreams. She has the power to become a role model and a leader in the community.
