The objective of the project is to equip youths, young men and women with knowledge and skills in proper piggery practice with improvement in income, nutrition and create food security among youths, young men and women in local communities and towns. The project intends to assist the youths, young men and women in local communities and town areas of Uganda to eliminate poverty and any other poverty related effects. The main problems facing these households are deep-seated in low-income rates to meet basic needs of life, in spite of growing economy. This one-year proposal is seeking funds to assist the lowly youths, young women and men who are poor materially and financially. The poor are increasing in number and suffering more in villages. The project also intends to get in touch with young men and women to create awareness by empowering them through entrepreneurial skills to reduce on the poverty lines.
Executive Summary
XXXXXX is a community Based Organization. XXXXXX intends to assist the youths, young men and women in local communities and town areas of Uganda to eliminate poverty and any other poverty related effects. The main problems facing these households are deep-seated in low income rates to meet basic needs of life, in spite of growing economy in Uganda. Research on poverty reveals that the support through entrepreneurial skills can help so much to eliminate poverty among the youths, young men and women in local communities as well as other parts in developing countries.
XXXXXX is limited to funding its activities and it’s on this ground therefore that XXXXXX has geared up a one-year proposal in which the youths, young men and women will be trained in piggery and given better grade pigs to rear to be self-reliant.
Wealth is compared to a mastered seed “being the smallest but ended up bearing many fruits”. XXXXXXXXXXX thus wants to encourage youths, young men and women to be self-reliant and economically empower them when their lives are at risk or threatened with poverty and disease related issues
The piggery project budget is Uganda shillings XXXXX.
Therefore, XXXXXXXXXX is requesting for Ug.shs XXXXX shillings only to benefit youths, young men and women in local communities of XXXXXXX District.
Background and Rationale
This one-year proposal is seeking funds to assist the lowly youths, young women and men who are poor materially and financially. The poor are increasing in number and suffering more in villages especially in XXXXX District. HIV/AIDS finds the poor a victim for they are not able to improve on their income and sustain their nutrition and meet their medical expenses. The ignorance worsens the situation as they continue believing myths as opposed to facts. HIV/AIDS affects performance and productivity. XXXXXX intends to get in touch with young men and women to create awareness by empowering them through entrepreneurial skills to reduce on the poverty lines.
XXXXXX’S set goals and objectives are responses to Uganda Government’s millennium development goal of poverty eradication to increase household’s income among people. The sustainability of this project is achievable because low income earners will be assured of a source of income for a better living. Although much work on poverty has been done in Uganda, XXXXXX believes that low income earners will be appreciated in the field of promoting development to the grass root.
Goals
XXXXXX’S goal in this particular proposal is to tarring youths, young men and women in healthier methods of rearing pigs and give out pigs to the first 150 pioneer members to become the first in the cycle as the project continues to distribute others every year because of this, the project will become sustainable and this will leave the project running forward for sustainability.
Objectives
The objective of the project includes the following:

- To improve income among youths, young men and women in local communities and towns.
- To improve nutrition and create food security among youths, young men and women of XXXXXX District.
Implementers
XXXXXX will be the sole implementer of the project.
Why Youths, Young Men and Women?
Literacy and poverty are interrelated with levels in Uganda which are so low. If no immediate attention is paid to the women most of whom who are illiterate to engage in income Generating Activities (IGAS), there will be high levels of poverty. This project which focuses on them will help them acquire skills so that they can venture into various Income Generating Activities (IGAS) to earn some income of their own making.
The problems facing women in Uganda are many. Several of the problems are as a result of one major problem of poverty. Poverty is due to lack of employment in the rural areas. The level of earning or no earning at all will also lead them to failure to educate their children thus a chain of poverty from generation to generation. Therefore, equipping women, youths and young men with skills concerning income Generating Activities (IGAS) is one of the ways appropriate in breaking down the chain of poverty. Being idle leads on indulgence in sexual activities, but without even enough money to treat some sexually transmitted infections, the women become threatened by HIV/AIDS, which is capable of wiping them off and other sexually transmitted diseases like T.B etc.
Related Risks and Constraints
The factors which could hinder success of this project are: –
- Being bed ridden/prolonged hospitalizations of beneficiaries
- Death of the pigs.
- Political misinterpretation regarding sources of money.
- Having inadequate water supply.
XXXXXX shall counteract those inhibitors: -The Association will work hand in hand with the families of the beneficiaries in this project to ensure that they are healthy and those which are sick or will fall sick will be given hope in order to live positively. Sponsors will be clearly communicated to from the beginning. No information will be kept secret concerning the funding.
The Association still will ensure that the training, monitoring and use of veterinary staff are done to avoid death of pigs or piglets.
Funding of the gravity water for this area is in progress. Hopefully there will be enough water supplies through gravity scheme which is XXXXXX’S Plan.
Project Design and Implementation
The program funding will be for one year and it will benefit 150 youths, young men and women. It will include two major areas of implementation.
The two will be:
- Impart proper training in pig rearing. Training shall be done for one week for 150 youths’ young men and women. Therefore 25 people will be trained each day.
- 20 improved pigs at an estimated cost of UG shs.XXXXXX each will be purchased together with the related soars (at least 6) at a cost of Ug.shs .XXXXXX each. This will total to XXXXXXX. The pigs will be cared for in one place as centre for excellence. When the pigs produce, they will be distributed to 150 youths, young men and women each on getting two piglets. The second round will benefit 100 women. This project will be continuous until all women interested in piggery rearing will benefit in XXXXX village in XXXXX Central Division.6 soars will be purchased at Ug.shs.XXXXXX
- A pigsty will be constructed for feeding and watering troughs to maintain good hygiene and the passing on of the pigs to other women who will be selected after this project.
- Starter feeds for 8 months. Each pig eats 2 kilos a day. Therefore,20 pigs to eat 40 kilos a day and a kilo will cost XXX.
- The total cost of food for eight months will be XXXXXXX
- The initial training will create trainers of trainers after this project. The pigs which will be given to the beneficiaries will be passed on to others after this project.
Expected Output
Each pig produces 10 piglets in eight months. So, each participant will have a minimum of 2 pigs in eight months which can at any time offer two other choices.
The two pigs given at the beginning to each woman shall be passed on to the next, trained women when the first piglets reached maturity stage.
The project will therefore be self-sustaining after the exit of the period sponsoring.
Major Activities
The Association has mobilized youths, young men and women who are going to be the beneficiaries of this project.
A modern pigsty will be contributed by the group like bricks, poles sand and manual labor. What Will be funded in construction will be roofing materials, cement, nails and skilled labour.
The construction of feeding and watering troughs in the sites as a measure towards good hygiene and disease control. The beneficiaries will contribute to this construction.
20 pigs and 6 soars will be acquired and distributed to the groups. It’s expected that each beneficiary will be given pigs.
The organization will put in place all necessary measures and practices for smooth running of the project but such will be consistent with this project proposal. Vivid presentation in every part will be aimed at cultural and social values and feeling s will be taken care of in order to appreciate and understand the aim of the project by the beneficiaries.
Compassion will be a cardinal principle while handling this group and the groups that will be formed after. Simple techniques will be used depending on the matter to be delivered and their ability to follow. Question and answer method will be used.
Monitoring and Evaluation
The organization will institute a routine gathering of information on all aspects of the project activities for purposes of rectifying shortcomings and encouraging progress. Checklist will be developed by the committees of the project to keep track on the delivery process with specific regards to: –
- Availability of expected output, activities implemented Vs planned in a given period, timely implementation of the activities, beneficiaries of the work done, activities not implemented and rescheduled (Reason why?) and Quality of out puts
- Means of verification include files on each activity done in a given period of time, reports regularly submitted to the concerned personnel by the project leaders. The organization will conduct a rapid follow-up of any issue raised in the project implementation process, which may require quick attention. Under this strategy, great emphasis will be put on usually raised issues such as less action on the implementation process, low value of money, low utilization of funds, personalization of the project and untimely preparation of reports serious misuse of funds.
The monitoring reports will include among other things: –
- Verification of progress and identification of deficiencies in the implementation of the project.
- Recommendations, Issues which need immediate follow-up, progress in solving issues rose in the previous monitoring reports.
In general, the Donor will monitor and evaluate as the implementers will do the same monthly basis. The quarterly reports will be forwarded to the Donor as well as the yearly. There will be phase out report to the Donor.
