The Global Development Network (GDN) invites research grant applications from multi-disciplinary research teams for ‘Doing Research’ project to undertake a systematic study of the research environment in developing countries. The project aims to build a systematic framework to document the research environment in developing countries around the world.
The GDN will support 6-7 extensive research studies within the overarching theme of ‘Doing Research’. Depending on the geographical coverage and the level of data and information, maximum grant up to US$43,000 is provided for the research. The research project is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Government of France, and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation.
Eligibility Criteria
- The research studies must be based on developing countries from Africa, South Asia, East Asia, South East Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean and carried out by research teams in developing countries. Preferred countries are- India, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Senegal, Malawi, Zambia, Mali, Mozambique, China, Indonesia and Botswana.
- Applicant researchers must be the permanent residents of the developing country they are applying studies for.
- The Principal Investigator has to be based in the country which is being studied.
- Citizens of developing countries temporarily residing in a developed country for no more than five years are eligible to apply as part of a team.
- Staff members of multilateral and bilateral organizations are eligible to participate only as external advisors.
- Applicants should clearly mention if this proposal is receiving or scheduled to receive funds from other sources. It should be clearly explained how the additional funds provided by the grant would reinforce/complement the existing funds for successful completion of the research.
- Proposals can be submitted in English or French language.
Note: Applications must be sent via email with subject line ‘Doing Research Application – [Country]’. Curriculum vitae of all the research team members must be created as a single document and attached with the email. Also, a document with a brief profile of the organization of affiliation of the principal researchers should also be attached.
