The Cancer Research UK grand challenge award is open for applications with a motive to support best scientists from around the world and enable the optimal mix of disciplines and approaches.
Grand Challenge awards are the most ambitious cancer research grants in the world. They’re intended to catalyse a revolution in how to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer by bringing together the brightest minds around the globe, providing the freedom to undertake innovative, game-changing research.
Cancer Research UK is determined to tackle the toughest challenges in cancer and looking for applications from interdisciplinary teams with novel, exciting ways of solving one of seven Grand Challenges, which together encompass some of the most important unanswered questions in cancer research.
Award Information
A series of awards up to £20 million will be provided for the challenge.
Eligibility Criteria
The host institution of each Principal or Co-Investigator must
- Be a higher research-degree-awarding institution such as a university
- Be a research institution;or
- Be a company of good standing and appropriately accredited or registered in the country in which it is based.
- Have formal written procedures in place for allegations of research misconduct, minimally meeting the criteria laid out in the Universities UK Concordat to Support Research Integrity.
- Have formal written procedures for obtaining any necessary or appropriate ethical approval for the research funded by the grant.
- In the event of proposed animal use, have standards of laboratory animal welfare that either meet or exceed those required by UK Home Office regulations. In this regard, the relevant team member should:
- Be based in one of the following: an EU member state, Australia, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland or the USA; or
- Provide documentary evidence of a system of regulatory control of laboratory animal welfare that meets or exceeds the standards enforced by the UK Home Office.
- Be solvent at the time of application and provide audited financial information to CRUK on request.
