Swedish Institute has issued a call for applications with the funding opportunity to support projects aimed at democracy promotion activities in north-western Russia focusing on the media and gender equality.
The call is an initiative under Sweden’s strategy for support for democracy and human rights in Russia, the overall objective of which is to help promote democratic development and greater respect for human rights in Russian society.
Objectives
The principal aim of this funding call is to strengthen freedom of expression and the role of women in democratic development. More specifically, the funding is intended to help:
– strengthen independent new and/or traditional media in north-western Russia
– spread an awareness in civil society of the importance of greater gender equality for democratic development
– establish networks and exchanges of experience between actors in the media and/or gender quality sphere in Sweden and north-western Russia
– strengthen local initiatives in the media/gender equality sphere through new and improved working methods.
Target group
The call targets actors for change in the media and in sectors/organizations engaged in promoting democracy and gender equality in society.
Geographical scope
Activities are to undertaken in north-western Russia. This covers the counties of Leningrad, Novgorod, Pskov, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk and Kaliningrad, the city of St Petersburg, and the Karelian Republic. The exchanges may take place either in the partner country or in Sweden. Activities in north-western Russia will be given priority.
Eligibility for funding
Applicants may be a public authority, an institution, an organization, a foundation or any other professional actor who has undertaken documented activities in Sweden for at least two years. The Swedish partner must be a professional actor in the media field or an actor with experience in work with gender equality, and must possess the level of competence required by the local partner.
Private individuals may not apply for funding.
