This section has no page limit, and it is about a budget overview for each item on the form SF424A when requested. Since the Transition Grant will last up to four years, there will be no enough space to write about too many details as in a budget narrative, and thus it is called an overview which is needed to be precise and thorough. A budget overview is a summary of expected income and expenses overtime, in which you will describe two main elements: incomes (revenue) and costs (expenses). Incomes include all of the sources of support for the project, and costs are all of the expenses during the project’s implementation which should present a reasonable reflection of all of the activities proposed in the previous sections, including the monitoring and evaluations.
For the incomes, you will need to mention any other sources of support than the USAID including other grants, funding, and non-funding supports which could be spaces, facilities and donations from local organizations, communities and government. And by comparing the total of these sources to the total budget required by the project, you may generate a budget gap, and mention that the gap will need the USAID’s funding to fill, or the budget will need the funding from the USAID to balance. This way of overviewing your budget will enhance your chance to be funded, which also implies that if you have other sources of support, even though they will only occupy a smaller part of the budget, for example, about 10-30%, it will be much better than none.
For the costs, you are required to follow the form SF424A, to give explanations of those items as unit forms without details in the order of year. When the virtual project of “A Network to Improve the Maternal Health in Delhi” is taken as an example, the over view of the first year could be “$3,000 will be used for surveys to collect the data of infection rate before and after the network setup, $60,000 will be used for setting up a network of maternal health including hardware and software, $24,000 will be used to rent the working space for the headquarter of the network, $50,000 will be used to hire and train four staff who have experiences of health networks, etc.”
