A brief, sharp, and attractive title which will be focused on the saving lives at birth project will be what you need to consider and write about. Those titles in the Round One and Round Two are very good examples as chosen and funded titles. For example, one of the titles of “Mobilizing Maternal Health in Rural Kenya” showed not only the main ideas, but also the objectives and activities, as well as the location of the project; and another title of “Saving Mothers and Babies with Reliable Solar Power” are also an excellent title, because it showed the reviewers the goal, the objectives, and the activities of the proposal by using several words. We may follow the way of the composition of these titles to make an attractive and competitive title, which will help the proposal to be predominant. A title of a proposal is as important as the proposal itself since it will give the reviewers the first impression and attract them to do the reading.
As we learn from these title examples, a good title should be composed of at least three components: what we are going to do, for what purpose, and where it will happen. For example, if we want to propose a project of the USAID grant to save lives at birth locally, a regular title could be “The Maternal Health Situation in Delhi – the Current Situations and the Improvements”. But a more attractive title could be “A Network to Improve the Maternal Health in Delhi”, very clear and attractive.
The second example is that we plan to increase the survival rate of newborns in Yangon, a regular title could be “Current Newborn Survival Rate and Its Reduction in Yangon”, and an attractive one could be “the Increase of Newborn Survival in Yangon”.
The third example is that we try to write a proposal for the increase of the efficiency of maternal health service in Kano, we may compose a title as “The Current Efficiency of Maternal Health Service and Future Improvement in Kano”, or an effective one as “How to Improve Efficiency of Maternal Health Service in Kano”.
