The Young Women's Leadership Programme 2009

Young women between the ages of 20 and 35 years from Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda can apply for the four available scholarships under the 2009 Young Women’s Leadership Programme under the Eastern African Sub-regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI). The EASSI was established in 1996 for networking in the region and building on the gain following the fourth Beijing World Conference for Women. EASSI aims to “stimular activism at national, regional and international levels and to make concrete and meaningful change for women for the sub-region.

Young Women’s Leadership Programme provides opportunities for selected candidates to develop their skills in “leadership, gender, lobbying and advocacy, management, report writing and analysis, research and documentation, information management, developing resourceful data bases, website maintenance and resource centre management.” The Programme also gives an opportunity for the candidates to work with a local women’s rights-based organization in Uganda under internship.

The total period of the internship is nine months and candidates applying for the Programme should have at least a Bachelor’s Degree with good communication skills. Applying candidates need to send a letter of application, a letter of recommendation from a credible women’s organizations along with the CV and other documents.
