Applications are invited for Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (ELDP) Documentation Grants 2016. The objectives of the programme are:
- To support the documentation of as many endangered languages as possible.
- To encourage fieldwork on endangered languages, especially by scholars at an early stage in their academic career with skills in language documentation.
- To create a repository of language resources for linguistic, social sciences, and the language communities (ELAR, now hosted by SOAS Library).
Types of support
Small grants (SG)
Small Grants can be used for a range of purposes, such as to carry out fieldwork, develop a pilot project, complete a project already begun, or other documentation-related goals.
Grants available: The maximum grant is £10,000.
Individual Graduate Scholarship (IGS)
Individual Graduate Scholarship applications are invited from individuals seeking scholarship funding for up to 3 years. IGS projects last for 12 to 36 months; field trips are normally involved. In addition to field trip costs, you may apply for a stipend to cover the period while undertaking field research and processing the results.
The Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (IPF)
Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship applications are invited from individuals seeking their own support costs for up to two years duration. IPF are available for between 12 and 24 months.
Grants available: The maximum amount is £150,000.
Major Documentation Project (MDP)
Major Documentation Project is the name for any project over £10,000 which is not targeted to a specific career stage.
Grants available: Above £10,000 up to £130,000 (the maximum is £150,000).
Eligibility Criteria
ELDP is an international programme and welcomes applications from researchers of any nationality to undertake projects in any part of the world.
