New Zealand Pacific Scholarship: Building New Generation of Pacific Leadership!

Applicants are invited for New Zealand Pacific Scholarships (NZPS) funded by the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

NZPS program is to recognize the very close personal, cultural, and economic ties that New Zealand enjoys with Pacific countries. NZPS are for both undergraduate and postgraduate study in New Zealand.

A particular focus of NZPS is to increase the number of young students and high academic achievers studying in New Zealand and to build a new generation of Pacific leadership with strong links to New Zealand.

Eligible Countries: Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants from all eligible countries must meet the following conditions to be eligible for a New Zealand Pacific Scholarship. Applicant

• must be at least 18 years old at the time he/she start the scholarship.
• The country applicant is living in is in the list of eligible countries.
• is a citizen of the country he/she is living in.
• have been living in this country for at least the last two years (unless you are a member of the diplomatic corps or a dependent of a member of the diplomatic corps).
• must confirm that he/she is not currently serving in the military.
• want to study in New Zealand or in the Pacific and applicant from Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu.
• want to study at a level that is listed as available for his/her country for the scholarship that he/she is applying for.
• is expected to meet Immigration requirements for a student visa to New Zealand or the Pacific country he/she will study in.
• is expected to meet the academic entry requirements (including English language ability) to get into his/her preferred programme of study.
• should confirm that he/she have not been previously terminated from a New Zealand Government Scholarship because of poor academic performance or personal conduct.
• can demonstrate that the study he/she want to do will enable him/her to contribute to the sustainable development of his/her home country.
• should be committed to return to his/her country for a minimum of two years at the end of his/her scholarship to contribute to his/her country’s development.
• should have at least two years of work experience (part time or full time, paid or voluntary) unless he/she is applying straight from school or during his/her first year of tertiary study (for countries offered undergraduate study)
