The Open Society Foundations, in association with Centre National des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires, is inviting applications from students from select five Central Asian countries for scholarships to study in France. This program is sponsored by the French government and offers awards to 15 students for one-year postgraduate level study at a university in France.
Eligibility
Candidates should:
- be a citizen of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, or Uzbekistan;
- be students in their fifth year of undergraduate studies, and/or hold the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree and have relevant work experience related to one of the 9 relevant degrees;
- be applying for a Masters in Economic Development, Environment, History, Law, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Health, Sociology;
- have outstanding academic records;
- demonstrate a commitment to returning to Central Asia after completing studies in France;
- demonstrate appropriate French language skills
Scholarship Provisions
Participants will receive a tuition waiver, living stipends, a roundtrip plane ticket between France and their home country and, if required, a language preparation course. Please note that within this program, accompanying spouses or children are not eligible for family allowances.
Selection Criteria
The selection committee will include French university professors, CNOUS representatives, and OSI representatives. The French language test will be administered by the Embassies of France in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
All semi-finalists will be invited for an interview in late March 2012.
